The future King and Duchess express concern over the "extreme lengths" members of the press will go to see the Prince.

Prince William and Princess Kate have released a statement through their office at Kensington Palace: they do not want the media to purchase or publish images that were taken by the paparazzi. The parents are fearing for the safety of their children because they press has been going to "increasingly extreme lengths" to get pictures of Prince George, according to Time.

The open letter, which was written by William and Kate’s communications secretary, warns that a "line has been crossed" when it comes to the safety and welfare of their child in the last few months. The tactics that these photographers and reporters go to "represent a very real security risk" for the Prince and his family.

It is so bad, in fact, that the photographers’ behavior have caused the William and Kate to be “concerned about their ability to provide a childhood for Prince George and Princess Charlotte that is free from harassment and surveillance.”

While there are sure to be more, one incident in particular was revealed that left the Prince and Princess on edge:

A photographer rented a car and parked in a discreet location outside a children’s play area. Already concealed by darkened windows, he took the added step of hanging sheets inside the vehicle and created a hide stocked with food and drinks to get him through a full day of surveillance, waiting in hope to capture images of Prince George. Police discovered him lying down in the boot of the vehicle attempting to shoot photos with a long lens through a small gap in his hide. It is of course upsetting that such tactics – reminiscent as they are of past surveillance by groups intent on doing more than capturing images – are being deployed to profit from the image of a two-year old boy.

Kensington Palace also said that in recent months photographers have:

  • Gone to private parks to capture Kate and George playing, using long range lenses
  • Monitored Prince George and his nanny in London Parks
  • Monitored the actions of household staff
  • Took photos of Prince George's friends and released them to the public
  • Followed cars leaving the home
  • Hid in the fields and woods around various homes and locations
  • Hid in the sand in order to get Prince George and his grandmother
  • Put the Middleton family home in Berkshire under surveillance

“In a heightened security environment such tactics are a risk to all involved. The worry is that it will not always be possible to quickly distinguish between someone taking photos and someone intending to do more immediate harm,” read the statement.

Though many of the photogs haven't come from the UK, instead they have been from those who travelled from the U.S., Germany, France, Australia and New Zealand.
