It was found that smokers of both sexes may contract cancer due to moderate drinking.
Those women who drink one shot a day and those men who drank two tumblers may increase their risk of cancer. That is if they are smokers to begin with. Light to moderate drinking didn’t have a major link with cancer in smokers.

Yet the slight variation was enough to establish a causal connection. In women, it was breast cancer that was the dreaded disease. Those males who didn’t smoke were not susceptible to the consequences. That is of moderate alcohol consumption.
But heavy intake of alcoholic liquor is associated with several cancers. Alcohol consumption separately from smoking was not considered for research yet. More than 88,000 women got studied. And more than 47,000 men got examined.
The study, publishedin The BMJ, was constant over three decades. Among the cancers upon whom the focus was are included: colorectal, breast, oral, liver, pharynx, larynx and esophagus cancer. Some other markers which were taken into consideration were: age, race, BMI, history of cancer, smoking, exercise and diet.
More cancer incidents got recorded in women as compared to men. The relation between smoking and drinking in men and women were there alright. More research is needed before the full picture emerges.
It seems that the addition of smoking in the equation equals a greater risk of cancer for both men and women. Those individuals with a family history of cancer ought to avoid alcohol. And that is so especially if they happen to be smokers.
For that link increases the chances of contracting cancer. Smoking is bad enough. It not only causes cancer but is more harmful in case of women. That is because it can cause complications in pregnancy.
But alcohol and smoking when combined have the effect of a double whammy. They cause a shock to the system. It is like two wrongs do not make a right. The effect is devastating. The consumption of alcohol in moderate amounts as the French do is a healthy thing. It leads to a reduction in the chances of heart attack.
But large amounts of the demon drink may cause liver cirrhosis and alcoholic psychosis. The best prevention is not to start drinking or smoking in the first place. Alcoholism kills and do does smoking. These two bad habits are best avoided. And if you do start, now is the right time to quit them both.
