The film will be directed by the Hunger Games franchise director Francis Lawrence.

In April news broke that Lionsgate studio was considering bringing The Odyssey to the big screen. The ancient Greek poem by Homer if made into a movie will be directed by Francis Lawrence.

Francis Lawrence is famous for having directed the second, third, and fourth films of the Hunger Games franchise. Lawrence was confirmed to be attached to the project from the very beginning.

The Producer of the Hunger Games Nina Jacobson has also been brought on-board. The co-screenwriter Mockingjay Part 1 & 2 is working on the script for The Odyssey. Peter Craig wrote the script of the Mockingjay movies.

The most latest and major news about the project was released today. Apparently Hugh Jackman is being considered for the part of Odysseus. The Academy Award-nominated actor is currently in talks for the lead role.

The epic poem by Homer follows the character of Odysseus’s journey over ten years. In the poem Odysseus tries to find his way back home to his wife Penelope.

The poem refers to a time following the fall of Troy, while Penelope is in Ithaca. During his journey Odysseus has encounters with gods and monsters. Penelope on the other hand tries to spurn the advances of suitors at home.

According to the representative of Jackman nothing is permanent at this point. There is no deal in place and there is merely talk. The talks are in their early stages and nothing is confirmed, according to The Wire

Hugh Jackman as the warrior Odysseus is definitely a good choice. The actor is known for playing strong characters. A number of his films have seen Jackman in epic settings. The actor has proved he can play a wide variety of role.
