The group, which is made up of Liam Payne, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan have decided to take a break for a while so they can concentrate on their individual project.
The news was first reported by a UK paper “The Sun.”
“The guys have been together for five years, which is an incredible run for a boyband,” a source from One Direction told the newspaper. “They deserve to have at least a year to work on their own projects. There is absolutely no bad blood between them and they are all 100 percent behind the decision.”
"It is definitely not a split and they fully intend to get back together at some time in the future."
One Direction was formed in 2010 with five members until Zayn Malik left the group in March this year. Malik stated that he made this decision because he wanted to live like a “normal 22-year old who is able to relax and have some private time out of the spotlight.” Later, he signed a record label to pursue his solo career.
One direction has released four studio albums so far. The boys are currently working on their fifth album and have released the first song of the new album “Drag Me Down” last month. Since group is splitting temporarily, they will not launch a world tour to support their fifth and upcoming album.
“There was a meeting recently where it was agreed there would be no tour for the album.” Source said, which means their last full concert will be on October 31 at Motorpoint Arena in Sheffield, U.K. The source also added that their decision of taking a hiatus has nothing to do with departure of Zayn Malik.
“This was a plan with or without Zayn. In fact, the band have been making amazing music and been incredibly happy without Zayn. Of course, they would have preferred that he had stayed in the band, but they would have taken this extended hiatus even if he hadn’t left.”
During an interview with Free Radio, Liam Payne also hinted that the group is planning to take some time off after the release of their fifth album later this year. “I think everyone needs a little bit of a break now and a sit down and a stop, to kind of take in all the great things that have happened.”
Many media reports are indicating that this extended hiatus may lead to disbanding One Direction.
