It has been said that a physician’s support is crucial for shedding the excess pounds.

Over 300 overweight people were studied in a survey. The weight loss research showed some important facts that ought not to be ignored. Firstly, a modest weight loss must be expected.

If you compare your goal to that of a model, you are setting yourself up for failure. Furthermore, those who consulted their personal physicians on the matter lost the most weight. And they were successful at maintaining it too.

The rate of weight loss was in fact nearly double for those who sought the advice of their GP. Weight loss is a thorny and dusty road that one must travel. The pain, fatigue and constant frustration that the biggest losers face is a bitter brew.

It is something the rest of society is oblivious of. Yet the effort is worth it in the end. A fit and smart individual emerges from the bulky shapeless mass of fat. There is happiness and a sense of triumph.

Physicians have a key role in the weight loss equation. They could act as supporters and professionals. They should buck up the efforts of the obese individuals.

The bedside manner is something that physicians were famous for in the past. Today the medical profession has been commercialized to an extreme extent. Yet there is still something of the personal and heart-warming in a doctor-patient bond.

Those patients whose doctors showed empathy were successful. They happened to show the most progress in their recovery from disease. And obesity has been categorized as an illness.

It is a medical problem. Those obese patients whose doctors didn’t show any respect were failures. They were least likely to follow up on their weight loss medication, diet and exercise regimens.

Weight loss is not an easy thing. You have to provide your body a solid reason before it will shed the extra fat. Personality is one of the factors in weight loss and so is behavior. The other factors include balance, variety, food choice and portion control.

A plan can be the most helpful since otherwise it is a case of drift. Those obese patients who had the most friendliest doctors showed the most progress. The level of helpfulness their physicians showed caused a boost in mood and drive.

These patients literally got a fillip. The support increased their motivation to succeed in the weight loss journey. More than a third of Americans are obese. Obesity is one of the major diseases of civilization and in particular Western Civilization.

With its junk food outlets and sedentary lifestyle this is inevitable. If you sit on a sofa all day and watch television, the result is obviously going to be obesity.
