1 Billion Use Facebook in Single Day Sending Stock Up

Mark Zuckerberg announced that for the first time Facebook was used by 1 billion users on a single day.

Facebook is unstoppable. Mark Zuckerberg announced on his Facebook page that for the first time ever, 1 billion people used Facebook in a single day.

On Monday August 24, 1 in 7 people on Earth used Facebook. This is pretty wild to think about it especially considering the digital divide in the world. Billions of people are not connected.

Zuckerberg said: "I'm so proud of our community for the progress we've made. Our community stands for giving every person a voice, for promoting understanding and for including everyone in the opportunities of our modern world. A more open and connected world is a better world. It brings stronger relationships with those you love, a stronger economy with more opportunities, and a stronger society that reflects all of our values."

He continues to thank all Facebook users: "Thank you for being part of our community and for everything you've done to help us reach this milestone. I’m looking forward to seeing what we accomplish together."

The news of the historic Facebook milestone sent the FB stock up almost 3%. It closed after hours at $90.10. Facebook has now a market capitalization of $253 billion.

Facebook has now reached a level of dominance for social media like Google has for web search. Zuckerberg's social media empire is here to stay and nothing will be able stop it.
