Elon Musk reveals Bargain $35,000 Tesla Model 3 in March

The bargain Tesla Model 3 will be unveiled in March 2016, says Elon Musk.

The bargain Tesla Motors sedan could be a total game changer. Elon Musk just revealed that the Model 3 will start at $35,000 and will be unveiled in March of next year. The pre-orders will also start in March.

The $35k price means that the Model 3 will sell for half of what customers have to pay for an entry-level Model S. What is not clear yet is if Elon Musk is already taking off any state subsidies off. Let's hope the $35k is the sticker price. Government subsidies would then drive the purchase cost down even further.

There is still some patience required as production of the bargain Tesla starts in about 2 years, Musk said. This is because Model 3 will be produced in a Gigafactory which will take approximately 24 months to be fully operational.

The Model 3 would go into production in late 2017, which is likely to push the first shipments into early 2018.

Tesla has not yet revealed any details about the Model 3 besides what Musk has spilled today on Twitter.

The company is just starting this month to ship the first new Model X cars. Elon Musk has also Tweeted about the Model X. He says that the first Model X cars will be handed to customers on September 29 at the Tesla factory in Fremont.

He also clarified the price of the standard Model X. So far only the price of the full featured Model X signature edition has been revealed and with $132,000 is quite steep. Musk says that the standard Model X is $5,000 more expensive with the same extras as a Model S.
