Sony reveals a trio of phones. One is a flagship device, the other a compact version, and the third a premium phone.
Sony has announced its latest flagship smartphone, the Xperia Z5. In keeping up with the tradition, Sony made three versions of the Z5. The goal is to offer as many options as possible to Sony's customers.
One thing is common: all three models feature the latest camera, display, and design technologies that only Sony could offer. Starting with the main camera, you'll get an overwhelming 23-megapixel sensor and F2.0 G lens--a first since the older Xperia Z1.
Add Sony's interchangeable lens camera and you have a camera that is faster than the human eye. Sony claims that its camera technology can capture shots in 0.037 seconds. To put things into perspective, the average human eye blinks at 0.1 to 0.4 seconds.
The Xperia Z5 is the flagship device of Sony, featuring a 23-megapixel Exmor RS sensor and five times more powerful image zoom. There's also a feature called Hybrid Autofocus, which delivers an incredibly fast and accurate 0.03-second autofocus.
The phone has a 5.2-inch display and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 octa core processor with an Adreno 430 GPU and 3GB RAM. You also get up to 32GB of storage and up to 200GB of external storage via microSD.
Xperia Z5 Compact
The Xperia Z5 Compact, as its name suggests, is a smaller version of the standard Z5 model. Everything is identical, except for the 4.6-inch Triluminous display and 2GB RAM. Like its older brother, the Z5 Compact is also IP65 and IP68-certified, which means that it's waterproof and dust-resistant.
Apart from the smaller size, the phone dons a 23-megapixel rear-facing camera and 5-megapixel front-facing camera. You can also record 4K video and toy with its wide angle lens. Along with the Z5 and the premium model, the Z5 Compact has a 2,700mAh battery, which can last up to two days, thanks to Sony's power-saving technology.
Xperia Z5 Premium
If you want an Android phone that screams “premium” on all sides, check out the Xperia Z5 Premium, a fitting name and the best of the three. First, it has a 4K Ultra HD display and a larger 5.5-inch screen. Imagine having the best of Sony's TV technology in a smartphone.
The Z5 Premium also has more pixels, reaching an ultra-sharp 806 pixels-per-inch--over 10 times the pixels on a Full HD TV and about twice than most smartphones. In addition to the premium design and mirror effects on its back, you also get a 23-megapixel front camera and 5-megapixel front camera.
Availability and Pricing
Sony didn't reveal the estimated prices of the phones, although it said that the Xperia Z5 and the Z5 Compact will be launching globally sometime in October this year. The high end Xperia Z5 Premium is arriving later in November.

It's worth noting that the Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 Premium will have single SIM and dual SIM variants. Sony is expected to offer stylish and protective cases for the phones. Oh, you'll also get a nifty SBH54 Stereo Bluetooth Headset. So, what do you think about Sony's latest phones? Are they impressive?
