After a successful run the Straight Outta Compton movie is replaced by War Room on the box office.
Straight Outta Compton which has stayed at the top of the box office for three consecutive weekends is now facing competition. This competition comes from Sony’s War Room.
War Room has taken the first place on the box office. The movie took a clear lead after three days. According to estimations the movie has earned $9.4 million in 1526 locations.
The movie had a budget of just $3 million but has outpaced expectations. Just last weekend War Room was successful in earning $11.4 million. Thanks to that the domestic total of the movie now stands at $24.7 million.
The movie has actually benefited from being one of the only faith-based films in theaters recently. So even though Straight Outta Compton failed to secure the first place it has added $8.8 million over three days.
It is speculated that the movie will cross $150 million domestically. The movie is a breakout hit of late summer which opened to $60.2 million. Now it has become the biggest musical biopic of all time.
The other two new releases include, A Walk in the Woods and The Transporter: Refueled. A Walk in the Woods has earned $8.3 million over three days. While The Transporter: Refueled earned only $7.1 million. The Transporter: Refueled opened in 3434 theaters. It is one of the widest Labor Day releases ever.
The Labor Day weekend has been a slow close to the summer box office race. Moreover this is the first weekend this year where not a single film crossed the $10 million mark in three days.
