Professional drones have one problem. They take up a lot of space and are not easy to pack up and transport safely. ProDrone, a new drone startup has unveiled a prosumer drone that is very portable.

The Byrd drone has foldable arms and removable gimbals. The Byrd folds to a neat iPad sized package that drone pilots can just carry around in a backpack as pictured below.

The ProDrone Byrd is named after the American aviator and explorer, Richard E. Byrd. ProDrone thinks of drones as a buddy owners take on a trip to help them capture the experience in the best possible way.

Besides being highly portable the Byrd, drone offers max. 29 minute flight time and max. take-off payload of 3.6kg (4.5lb). ProDrone recommends though to keep payload at 2kg.

The drone also features swappable gimbal and camera options that allow for quick change between a GoPro set up to another 1080 or 4K or infrared camera.

Dual controllers support enables two pilots to fly the drone. This is great in a training situation when an experienced pilot can quickly take over controls when necessary.

Up to three people can to see what the Byrd drone is seeing with the sharable screen feature.

The Byrd supports the standard prosumer drone features including follow Me, app control, return home, one button take off and more.

Pricing of the Byrd drone will range from $800 to $3,000 depending the configuration. ProDrone plans to launch in Q4.
