  • Those who consume Diet Drinks eat Junk Food later on

A recent study found out that those individuals who consumed diet drinks on a regular basis later on compensated the healthy behavior by eating junk food.

The people who drank diet sodas and diet beverages along with their daily meals were more likely to binge on unhealthy food later on. This was a sort of compensatory mechanism that worked like clockwork.

A study found the iron law to be a constant in the lives of dieters. Thus the illusion of saving calories by consuming tons of diet drinks was just that – an illusion. The body in its age-old wisdom made these dieters overcompensate later on much to their chagrin.

The research covers the daily regimen of over 22,000 mature Americans. And the results were consistent. The diet beverage drinkers later on consumed lots of stuff that was loaded with sodium, sugar, fat and cholesterol.

This was bad news for those trying to minimize their liquid calories. A decade worth of information was carefully perused. And the conclusion was that you simply cannot shortchange the body. It recognized the fake from the real thing. Participants in the experiment were asked to keep a food diary.

The liquid calories spanned the spectrum of coffee, tea and alcohol as well as fruit juices and cans of soda pop. The diet and sugar-free drinks were included in the analysis. The energy-dense foods that got consumed as compensation for diet drink intake were: cookies, chocolate bars, ice cream, french fries and fresh-cream pastries.

A whopping 90% of the dieters later on went crazy and ate tons of these harmful albeit delicious foods. It was like the body was asking for its fair share and would not allow itself to be cheated by the mind.

On a daily basis about 482 calories of the gunky food was consumed by these otherwise conscientious dieters. This went against their best interests but that was the way the wind blew.

All their dieting efforts came to naught thanks to the after-effects of consuming low calorie drinks. Coffee was the all-time favorite. This was followed by tea and alcohol and finally came the diet beverages which were supposed to benefit the overweight individuals.

Alcohol led to the most binge eating. The least overeating behavior was noticeable in case of those who consumed tea. It appears to be the case that those who drank diet beverages later on thought to themselves that they had a right to eat as much as they liked.

But this could work both ways. It might be that those who ate a lot of junk food managed to convince themselves that they ought to consume diet drinks.
