Vanessa Williams has been invited back as a judge to the Miss America beauty pageant where she was once a winner and faced humiliation by scandal of nude photos.

Vanessa Williams has become such a great name in the entertainment industry. The Grammy, Emmy and Tony award winning singer and actress is known for millions of albums she sold and her monumental roles in Desperate Housewives and Ugly Betty.

What most people don’t seem to remember is that this hazel eyed beauty was also the first African American woman to win the title of Miss America. Sitting down at an interview, Vanessa revealed what her feelings were back in 1983 when she won the title.

She said that as a 20 year old at the time, she was actually thinking about the foreign study trip she was planning. Her next thought was what she had to do from then on. She told GMA that as soon as she was off the stage, she was the media's.

Vanessa Williams said that she never realized the impact of her win until she was going across the country. There were African American women who thought they’d never see the day. They were crying and proud.

Things were also tough as there were many threats against her life at the time. She said that FBI has a special box the contained all the death threats against her. She had sharp shooters on buildings wherever she visited. She sat inside the car during parades but that was all part of the job.

The job got harder when Penthouse Magazine acquired to print the nude photos of then Miss America she had shot two years prior the competition. The magazine printed the photos and earned its top selling rate in history.

The scandal however landed Williams with a warning to hand in her title and resign or be dethroned forcefully. She resigned and gave up her title and took a four years hiatus from the entertainment world.

Now after 31 years, the Miss America Pageant welcomes back its once defamed queen. According to promos of the show that will be broadcasted on Sunday, Williams would be a judge.

There has been a dispute however between the pageant authorities and Ms. Williams’ agents about whether they are apologizing to Ms. Williams or else expecting an apology from her. The end result is yet to be determined by the appearance of Ms. Williams on the show on Sunday.
