iPhone 6S has 2GB RAM says Developer

Apple does not like to talk about RAM in the iPhone and iPad. Here is the first evidence that the new iPhone 6S has double the RAM of the iPhone 6.

Every other smartphone maker touts the RAM inside their flagship phones. Not so with Apple. The company does not state in the specifications of the iPhone the amount of RAM inside. The reasons for this is that Apple has a different approach.

Similar to the lower mega pixels in the iPhone camera sensor, Apple aims to get away with the lowest amount of RAM possible. This not only motivated by cost, but also technical considerations.

Apple disappointed fans last year, with keeping the RAM at the 1GB size in the iPhone 6. The iPhone 6S got now 2GB. At least this is what a Xcode tool developed by Hamza Sood revealed.

The tool also says that the iPad Pro has a whopping 4GB of RAM.

More RAM means that there can be more OS and application data in memory. This is essential for fast multi-tasking performance.

We will know for sure how much RAM the new iPhone 6S has after the first dissection report. The first impressions of the iPhone 6S performance gains will become available later this week. Traditionally the tech pundits including Walt Mossberg release their iPhone 6S reviews before the iPhone 6S goes on sale on Friday, September 25.

The iPhone 6S is apparently off to a great start. The iPhone 6S Plus has sold out a couple hours after the iPhone 6S pre-order started. Select iPhone 6S models have now sold out as well and ship with a 2 to 3 week time frame. The sold out iPhone 6S models include the Rose Gold iPhone 6S 16GB.
