NASA TV has partnered with Harmonic for the inauguration of an All-American UHD channel. And it is a non-commercial enterprise to boot.
NASA is hooking up with Harmonic in order to launch its NASA TV UHD. This happens to be the first ever ultra high definition television channel in all of North America. The venture was a fruit of the Space Act Agreement. This system will enable consumers to view a lot of stuff on a wide range of devices from TV to Internet contraptions.

November 1st is the launch date of the enterprise. There will be many test runs before it is finalized though. NASA’s UHD content has quadruple the potency of HD and is a bold step in digital services.
“Partnering with Harmonic gives NASA an outlet for its UHD content, which has four times the resolution of HD and is the next iteration of digital television,” said Robert Jacobs, deputy associate administrator for NASA’s Office of Communications at the agency’s headquarters in Washington.
UHD has an 8 megapixel resolution field and it will be employed to paint a picture of the magnificence and aesthetic infinity of space. The pictures will be brought before the eyes of consumers via the ISS and other missions of NASA in space. Harmonic is negotiating a deal with pay TV agents regarding the casting of the channel on satellite cable and other venues.
NASA will continue in its mission of exploring outer space. And each step of the journey will be broadcast live to viewers in the comfort of their living rooms. The technology is a source of inspiration and excitement alright.
That is because it has enabled so much in the way of public infotainment and access to what is going on at NASA. The costs are reasonable and the payoff is huge. It almost seems that here NASA is connecting with the common people in a bid to bringing the adventure which has no end within their purview.
“As NASA reaches new heights and reveals the unknown, the NASA TV UHD channel can bring that journey to life in every home. And as organizations at the forefront of innovation, together we are leading the adoption of this exciting technology,” said Peter Alexander, chief marketing officer at Harmonic.
“As the leader in UHD development, Harmonic provides a complete solution for Ultra HD video production and delivery, enabling content and service providers to offer better video quality at a low total cost of ownership.”
NASA’s new 4K channel will pique and stimulate many appetites. People will get to have a broad and panoramic view of space which is the final frontier. Harmonic, its sidekick in the operation, is basically a video delivery infrastructure corporation.
The images will be roughly fixed at 2160p at 60 frames per second. Anybody can view the programs on the Internet provided he or she has the necessary device. UHD footage of past remastered versions of images will be relayed on to the channel as well.
