  • Global Warming to Resume its Onslaught after a Brief Lull

The trend of global warming is to resume its onslaught after a brief lull. The climate is all set to change for the worse unless mankind cuts back drastically on the pollutants it releases in the environment.

The heat during summers is at an all-time high. And this is so not only in the oceans but on land and in the air as well. These patterns show that global warming is back with a vengeance.

Within 60 days or so of this news, diplomats from over 200 countries will meet at a conference in Paris to discuss ways of lessening the threat of global warming. Putting the demon of pollution and resource depletion back in its bottle will be a task alright.

Since the turn of the millennium, temperatures have risen slowly. But now it looks like the phenomenon of global warming is trying to recover lost time. The past half a century has been one of steadily increasing temperatures.

Both the Atlantic Ocean and the Pacific Ocean showed the trend towards rising mercury levels. And the period from 2015 to 2016 will be crucial. Last year it was pretty warm as well.

The signs are all there. Global warming is a reality. And taking it down a notch or two will take all our human-all-too-human efforts. Furthermore, the El Nino weather phenomenon is bound to increase the temperature in the Pacific region.

Of course, that does not mean that man-made trouble does not have its specific part to play in this drama of earth-bashing. And when you combine man-made hazards with Nature’s own wastage policies, what you get in the end is sheer devastation on a planetary level.

Were the overall temperatures to rise by as little as two or three degrees centigrade, they would play havoc with the limits of human tolerance. Utter lassitude and lethargy would be the order of the day.

Man will have to see to it that the deleterious effects of his activities do not cause problems that do not have a solution in the first place. For then he will be stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Were global warming to proceed in its steamroller manner, the result would be deluge, desertification, tempests and tsunamis. These disasters are not something to be taken lightly. They are the worst catastrophes that can befall a small planet that is the only harbinger of life in an otherwise desolate and barren universe.
