The big corporation, Exxon funded a climate change study in the 70s. This research proves its role as a conscious culprit in the burning of fossil fuels.
Although Exxon funneled many dollars into supporting those who denied the very existence of climate change, it also funded a study that proved it was very real.

The oil and gas behemoth was less irrational in the good old days. Believe it or not, but research that was funded from Exxon’s own deep pockets confirmed the link between fossil fuels and climate change.
The experts on board the enterprise gave their report on global warming in a dead cert way, according to an internal investigation by InsideClimate News.
However, later on a senior member of Exxon spurned the results of the research that were staring them in the face by saying that there was no surety to the statement that global warming was due to the burning of fossil fuels.
Today, we know better. The carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere causes an overall warming of the planet. Exxon even funded a three year project where the carbon dioxide levels were measured around the world via a team of researchers aboard a supertanker.
Many models and simulations were also created to see how fossil fuels affected the rise in temperatures on a worldwide level. Then all of a sudden, Exxon did an about-face and changed its policy.
By ignoring its previous research, it began to drum up support for climate change deniers. This was a nefarious thing to do but we are talking about a super-multinational company here and so anything goes and everything is allowed. The real criminals are the MNCs yet they get away with daylight highway robbery like no other agency or entity.
Since the past four decades or so, Exxon has been privy to the effects of fossil fuels on climate change. But it chose to do nothing about it and simply turned a blind eye to the whole problem which of course spiralled out of control.
Today, when we are seeing fallout of the mistakes of the past, it seems to be a case of too little too late. Exxon’s internal information goes against the very reason of existence of the company.

But just to make a lousy profit and keep up appearances, the huge organization chose to pretend that there was no fire when the smoke was billowing from the windows (so to say). Now we have to pay for the consequences of this lack of consciousness. And what a price we have to pay!
