Cortana will let drivers issue commands using its voice assistant.

Microsoft had first unveiled its Windows in the car concept last year at the Build developer conference. The demo had included the ability to project a Windows interface to mirror what’s shown on a phone screen into a touch and car friendly interface. But then there was little mention of how one would interact with the system using just their voice.

Now the concept has made some progress and included Cortana. At the Microsoft’s TechDays event in Taiwan, the company revealed that it has developed a new concept, according to Taipei Times (via The Verge).

This new concept projects Cortana onto the windshield of a car. The Cortana integration will let the drivers do some amazing things. This will include making restaurant reservations on their windshield or some other stuff.

It seems pretty clear that Microsoft’s car efforts have progressed over the past year. Still the company thinks it isn’t ready to launch its own Windows 10 integration. Over the years the company has powered a lot of different car entertainment systems.

The company has worked with Kia, Ford, Nissan, BMW and Fiat. Microsoft used special versions of Windows to create their own interfaces and systems. Yet Microsoft’s software has been custom for each car manufacturer.

Now if Microsoft somehow manages to bring its latest concept into reality then it will serve as an alternative to Apple’s CarPlay or Google’s Android Auto.
