MegaBots Giant Robots Surpassed $500,000 Funding Goal

The Giant Robot makers have done it. Megabots raised more than $550,000 to prepare for the robot battle against Japan.

On August 18th, MegaBots Inc. launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise money to make their Giant Robot ready for fighting the Japanese contender. Now MegaBots has the fund to destroy the Japanese giant robot contender.

Over 7,800 geeks and robot fans have raised over $550,000, surpassing the $500,000 goal. The Megabots Kickstarter project ends today. With the $500,000 goal reached the MegaBots Mk.II will get the remarkable Howe & Howe track base. Vehicles equipped with the technology have been featured in the new Mad Max movie. The video below shows what the track base can do.

MegaBots founders Gui Cavalcanti, Matt Oehrlein and Brinkley Warren have assembled a team of American innovators, engineers, fabricators and entertainment professionals to prepare their robot Mk. II for battle. Team members include Grant Imahara, known from Mythbusters and Dr. Peter Diamandis, founder of the X-Prize.

The big issue is that the 12,000 pound Mk. II was designed for paintball combat and not for melee fighting. Kurata asked for Hand-to-Hand combat. The giant robot fight is set for July 2016.
