The Nissan chiefs confessed they wish to make a completely electric GT-R in the future.

Nissan may be about to give Tesla a run for its money. Nissan has admitted they plan to build a completely electric GT-R in the future. The news was revealed by the chiefs at Nissan.

The current GT-R runs on hybrid technology. But Nissan aims to make an all-electric car. The next generation completely electric GT-R car may derive its design from the Vision GT concept.

Nissan has been pushing towards more environmental friendly cars. The European EV Director Gareth Dunsmore especially likes to speculate on zero emissions. So it seems fitting Nissan is working on a completely electric car.

Dunsmore was also behind the successful establishment of the original Juke R concept. According to Dunsmore the last five years have seen a phenomenal change in the industry. Nissan is not equipped to build an electric GT-R today.

But Nissan has no reason not to be able to accomplish the goal in the future. Nissan will soon be able to incorporate the electric vehicle technology in a performance vehicle. For Nissan to build an electric car it has to be a world beater. But Nissan will take its time for credibility and expertise.

“The rate of change over the last five years has been phenomenal,” Dunsmore told Top Gear. “We can’t build an electric GT-R today. But do I want to? I’d love to. Will we be able to do that in the future? I can’t see a technical reason why we wouldn’t be able to implement electric vehicle technology in something like a performance vehicle.”

Nissan is famous for having a history with zero emissions. Previously Nissan built the Leaf RC concept and the Zeod RC racer. The cars showed zero emissions for the first time ever in the laps of Le Mans. At the 2014 race the cars became the first vehicle with zero emissions.
