That is until Stefani filed for divorce earlier this year in August. The reasons for estrangement are yet unknown.
Stefani is not letting that get her down. She is channeling all her hurt and emotions into her music. Ever since she filed for divorce, she has been headed back to the recording studio. She has even resumed her position as a judge/mentor on The Voice.
So what has this 46 year old singer been up to in the recording studio? Fans got to listen to a new and emotional ballad, "Used to Love You," at the MasterCard Priceless Surprises concert in New York City on Saturday.
Gwen introduced the song saying that she just want to share a song that I wrote recently. She added that the song was really special and that she thought that this would be the new single.
The audience responded enthusiastically as she started to sing in her melodious voice. The lyrics of the song went something like, Yeah, boy / Thought this would happen / I let it sink in / You're gone," and "I don't know why I cry / But I think it's 'cause I remembered for the first time / Since I hated you / That I used to love you."
"I thought I was the best thing that ever happened to you" and "I guess nobody taught you how to love. An intimate clip of her played in the background. The track was produced by J.R. Rotem, a source close to the star confirms.
"[It's] just truth," Stefani told PEOPLE last month about an overall theme for her new music. "Just being clear and being true to myself. I just want to be fulfilled."
