During the interview, 4Gamer asked about Blu-ray and the Vice President’s view on this subject. They also asked if there is going to be any possibility of having Ultra HD Blu-ray and 4K Blu-ray in the era of PlayStation 4.
In his response, Masayasu said that the Blu-ray disc drive that is currently installed in the PS4 is made exclusively for the Blu-ray disc player.
So, the disc cannot read the 3-layer media that is standardized by Ultra HD Blu-ray. Due to this reason, the PlayStation 4 models currently available are not compatible with Ultra HD Blu-ray.
He further said that the company is considering to work on Ultra HD Blu-ray compatibility. Most of the developers think that it is not hard to find a way.
An enhanced PlayStation 4 model can be made to match with Ultra HD Blu-ray. During the interview 4Gamer also noted that Ultra HD Blu-ray display requires 4K or UHD TVs to properly function.
Most of the people do not own such expensive TVs. So rolling out an expensive version smoothly in the market will be quite a difficult task to handle.
