Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez came to a mutual decision to file for divorce after two years of marriage as they grew apart in their marriage.
Two years ago, a very pregnant Halle Berry tied the knot with the dreamy Olivier Martinez. They met at the set of the Dark Tide back in 2010. They fell in love with one another. Sources claim that they had a passionate relationship.
Halle was expecting Olivier’s child when they got married at the Chateau des Conde in the groom's native France, and on Oct. 5, 2013, Berry gave birth to their son, Maceo-Robert Martinez.
Their marriage has taken the bow. Halle Berry filed for divorce in L.A. Tuesday. Following the filing, she and Olivier released a joint statement confirming that they have indeed broken up after two years of marriage.
The statement detailed that they have come to the decision to divorce. The exes said that they are moving forward with love and respect for one another and the shared focus of what is best for their son.
"It is with a heavy heart that we have come to the decision to divorce," the exec said. "We move forward with love and respect for one another and the shared focus of what is best for our son."
While many speculate what could have caused the split between the two star crossed lovers, sources would say the problems started way before they were married. Halle’s daughter Nahla Ariela Aubry, with her ex-boyfriend, model Gabriel Aubry became the trigger. Halle was engaged in a nasty custody case with Aubry over Nahla.
This led Halle to deviate from her and Olivier’s decision to settle in Europe. Halle had to stay in L.A. to raise Nahla. That forced Olivier and Maceo to move to L.A. too. Olivier, although not new to L.A., never felt at home. The Aubry case also got the best of his temper as many witnesses detail how he’d lost it several times.
"They have had many issues," a source close to the couple told PEOPLE. "They both have fiery personalities and don't like to compromise. Halle has threatened to file for divorce several times after arguments."
Then Halle’s busy schedule that just kept adding on after she signed on for Extant left little but no time which the couple could spend together. Their solution to stay apart and let the principle ‘absence makes the heart grow fonder’ didn’t work either.
"Olivier is complaining that he and Halle are not spending much time together and that she is working too much," said the source. "He never wanted her to sign on for [CBS's Extant] and Olivier was hoping they would focus on family time together after Maceo was born."
"He complains he spends his days alone, or with friends," said the source. "He doesn't understand why Halle wants to work so much and is still so focused on her career. Halle has instead been extremely busy and Olivier, who has not been working, is very bored in L.A."
They ended up growing apart from each other and felt too comfortable without one another. Their relationship, according to sources, came to a point where they were not missing one another. That and their lack of concern and understanding for one another wishes caused an ocean rift between them.
"They have struggled for a long time and had been living separate lives," another source said. "They waited it out for a while, seeing if things would improve, but they didn't."
"They've essentially been separated for several months," a source said, "but now they are both ready for a clean break and to move on with their lives."
