The ‘Steve Jobs’ actress believes social media has a negative impact on young women’s self-esteem.
Kate Winslet recently sat down with The Sunday Times for an interview. In the interview the ‘Steve Jobs’ actress revealed she has banned all forms of social media in her house. According to Winslet social media has a huge impact on the self-esteem of young women.

Winslet believes the impact is mostly negative since all young girls want to do is design themselves for people’s likes. Winslet then explained changing oneself for other’s acceptance often leads to eating disorders. Eating disorders especially make Winslet’s blood boil. So for that reason social media is banned in her house.
The 40 year old Oscar winning actress is mother to three children. A daughter Mia who is 15 years old, and two sons Joe 11 years old , and Bear 22 months old. Winslet also shared how she and her husband also limit the use of phones and tablets in the house. Winslet is married to Ned Rocknroll and shared how both parents limit social media use for their children.
Winslet stated she promotes playing outside and climbing on trees more to her children. Winslet takes devices out of her children’s’ hands and tells them to rather play monopoly. Winslet particularly shared her disdain for families who all sit at cafes with their heads bent on devices and no communication.

According to Winslet parents let children go more into the digital world. Every member of the family has to make an effort to be a family. Devices are equivalent to distractions in a family for Kate Winslet. Winslet also added she doesn’t want to become a spokesperson of anti-digital or a celebrity who has all the answers.
