NASA is ready to assign cargo contracts for the International Space Station.

NASA is currently busy awarding cargo contracts to various agencies for the ISS. These contracts are worth billions of dollars. And they will see to it that there is a space fleet servicing the ISS in the upcoming ten years or so.

Even a brand new spacecraft could be launched from the Kennedy Space Center. Most of the space missions will take place between the years 2018 and 2024. The delays in getting the obvious out of the way have been one too many. It is now or never, as they say.

The usual agencies that have been hired to get the job done on a contractual basis will continue to play their roles. These include SpaceX and Orbital ATK, according to USAToday. As for the Boeing and Sierra Nevada Corporations, they could grab a deal each that would be worth at least $14 billion.

That is plenty of money to last a long time. Especially, the Sierra Nevada Corporation could reclaim its lost victory by designing the Dream Chaser mini shuttle. This special space vehicle will have undergone many design transformations before it becomes a functional piece of technology.

The head of Sierra Nevada Corporation spoke of how he thought by the end of the day, his agency was a good choice for the country. He just may be right on this one. SpaceX launches its cargo supplies on Dragon capsules from Cape Canaveral.

Meanwhile, Orbital ATK will launch its Antares rocket from Virginia with the arrival of 2016. However, contracts awarded also mean a lot of backbreaking work at the Kennedy Space Center.

The CST-100 Starliner is a space vessel of sorts in which Boeing will be sending astronauts to the ISS within a two year’s time span. SpaceX’s Dragon is another such space vehicle that is necessary for the missions to succeed. And it too will be put together at the Kennedy Space Center.

The number of career vacancies that will be filled thanks to this industrious enterprise is 550. There are even uncrewed missions that are planned for future times.  NASA hopes to become a value-added agency thanks to the handing out of these cargo contracts.

Especially the Dream Chaser spacecraft could end up doing NASA and the other space agencies a whole lot of good. It is basically a replica of the space shuttle. Thanks to these efforts, the race for space is definitely on!
