Researchers from Reading University have conducted a study which suggests that drinking up to three glasses of champagne a week has the potential to prevent dementia and Alzheimer’s disease among others.

The researchers came to this conclusion after they found that a compound discovered in Pinot noir and Pinot meunier grapes could help prevent aging individuals from developing the brain diseases and cognitive impairments. The compound is used to make the champagnes bubbly.
It must however be pointed out that the research was only successful in lab rats, and the authors of the study look forward to conducting the experiments on human patients. Based on their age, pensioners may be recruited to participate in the study.
They established that three glasses of champagne taken weekly could boost memory functions and increase cognitive abilities in elderly people and others with cognitive dysfunctions.
"The results were dramatic,” said Professor Jeremy Spencer of Reading University on Sunday. “This research is exciting because it illustrates for the first time that moderate consumption of champagne has the potential to influence cognitive functioning such as memory.”
The researchers however cautioned that more studies need to be conducted to further proven knowledge of the research, and a spokesman for the Alzheimer’s Society also asked for more research to be done to substantiate findings across all peoples.
