Especially, young females who are into dieting and want to lose weight fast often find themselves depressed beyond relief when they begin the weighing game. When the weight won’t budge, they tend to become disheartened and lose faith in the process.
These females often fell prey to depression and had very low self-esteem. This in itself is a bad thing for one’s weight. And they were also dissatisfied with their bodies and tended to develop eating disorders later on.
Close to 1900 individuals participated in the famous study. And more than half of them were women. Their self-weighing habits were tracked along with their levels of satisfaction with life. Those who frequently weighed themselves often tended to be cynical and lost hope very easily. Their moods suffered as a result.
Some of the females even started binging and purging or going on long term starvation periods which made them anorexic in the end. They also developed bulimic tendencies. The rate of such risky behaviors were close to 80%.
While being fat during adolescence was a factor in the whole weighing disease, those who were not happy with their circumstances tended to develop further complications. They had eating disorders and couldn’t disengage themselves from the sickness of the billion dollar diet industry which is out to bamboozle all of America.
The females who weighed themselves constantly day in and day out developed anxiety states and obsessed over the numbers on the scale. This led to everything depending on a figure behind a glass panel. And the function of life which is life itself and its true enjoyment was somehow lost in translation.
A large percentage of those who weighed themselves daily also happened to be yo-yo dieters. The constant weight loss followed by weight gain often led to health risks which would not have appeared had these females just let things be.
Even if you do have to weigh yourself, it ought to be once a week or even once a month. You don’t need to step on the scale each and every day. It is basically a sign of obsessive-compulsive disorder and not in the least bit healthy for the self or the ego of the individual.
