The scale of the Alibaba Group’s 11.11 Global Shopping Festival 2015 is incredible. The Alibaba 11.11 event, also known as Single's Day sales generated over $9.3 billion in sales last year. Just after 12 hours, last year's record was already broken and the latest numbers put the sales volume at $10 billion. If the momentum continues, the 11.11 sales event could double the sales volume from last year reaching $20 billion.

To put that into perspective. The combined online sales of the Black Friday weekend reached about $6.3 billion in 2014. Alibaba's Global Shopping Festival 2015 could make almost four times as much in sales within only 24 hours.

Alibaba Group President Michael Evans said that the international response has been terrific so far. During the 11.11 festival, Alibaba’s online platforms are not only enable overseas merchants selling to Chinese consumers but also for Chinese retailers selling to consumers in dozens of countries though AliExpress, the company’s global B2C website.

This is the second year Alibaba has been promoting the 11.11 Global Shopping Festival globally, and the 2015 festival is “the most international (sale) yet,” Evans said.

Jack Ma's ecommerce giant has set up a huge screen showing real-time sales numbers and statistics of the 11.11 event. This looks like as impressive as NASA launching a spacecraft.

The company also hosts the 2015 Tmall 11:11 Global Shopping Festival gala in Beijing and James Bond, aka Daniel Craig was a surprise guest on stage.
