Sony Pictures Home Entertainment (SPHE), a subsidiary of Sony Entertainment, based in Tokyo-Japan, has released the first 4K Ultra HD™ Disc format home entertainment from its studios, and the new release titles will start to circulate the market in early 2016.

According to Jason Allen, Vice President Corporate Communications at Sony Pictures, the new titles to be released together with a large library which is being stocked up at the moment will enable consumers to view quality 4K content with high dynamic range and immersive audio that will fill everywhere.
"By some estimates, consumers will own over 100 million Ultra HD television sets by 2019. Sony Pictures’ 4K Ultra HD Discs will deliver consumers the ultimate home theater experience, with stunning picture and sound quality," said SPHE president, Man Jit Singh.
"Ten years ago this month, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment authored the world’s first feature film on Blu-ray Disc™, and we continue to bring consumers the most innovative, immersive home entertainment experiences available," Singh continued.
Some of the first 4K Ultra HD Discs to be released by SPHE studios include The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Salt, Hancock, Chappie, Pineapple Express, and The Smurfs 2, and a host of other new film release and TV content to delight viewers.
With 4K Ultra HD discs, the viewer enjoys four times the resolution of normal HD and the high dynamic range (HDR), and this is what powers quality highlights, attractive colors, great contrast and others on displays that are compatible with the feature.
Some of the film titles to be released might also support immersive audio formats which is a next generation capability.
Sony Pictures owns a large library of 4K content, and some of these include the latest films and TV content, together with great films restored from original movie materials, and some of these are Fury, Captain Phillips, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Men In Black, Ghostbusters, The Fifth Element, Bad Boys, The Da Vinci Code, Bram Stoker's Dracula, Leon: The Professional, Lawrence Of Arabia, The Bridge on the River Kwai, The Guns of Navarone, Taxi Driver, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, and many others.
