The Science Guy, Bill Nye teaches us how to tackle climate change.
Everybody knows about Bill Nye. He is the Science Guy who brought extraordinary aspects of science into the lives of ordinary people. When children watch him demonstrate scientific principles with examples on his video clips and on television they are amused beyond belief.
Bill Nye has engendered so many memes. He even has his bow tie line of luxury fashion items. But beneath all the glamour and razzmatazz lies a science freak who is very serious about his passion.
His main mission is to get science and the scientific method into the lives of ordinary folks. And he is damn serious about his purpose in life. One of the things Bill Nye wants to do is to counter the negative effects of climate change.
Bill believes that unless we tackle climate change, it will be as deleterious to us humans as World War Three would be were it to happen. Bill is into eco-wars and he admits to National Geographic that climate change deniers cannot be cured. They are worse than some of the fundamentalist, gun-toting, foreigner-hating republicans you find today.
Bill Nye began his career as an engineer and only later on became the Science Guy. He is convinced that the only thing to do about climate change is to get started. “Just Do It” is the slogan of Nike and it pretty much sums up the sort of approach we ought to be taking. It is not impossible. Everything required is possible from an engineer’s point of view.
The only thing that is a limiting factor is our conservative and herd instinct mindset. He spoke of how one of the changes that will need to be made is turning to transportation that is less polluting. Employing bicycles instead of cars is one such thing that Bill noticed in China.
Even India where the progressive trends are such that pollution is a must, methods may be used where less pollution is the end result. It is all about finding creative solutions to age-old problems.
Bill Nye contends that the most dangerous trend is denying climate change since it is like an ostrich with its head in the sand. Such an approach does not help in the least. But Bill is not a doomsayer like many environmentalists.

He is a fun-loving guy who likes to take things lightly instead of in a sombre manner. Engineering the planet’s environment on a large scale must start on an even foot and progress by taking baby steps. But we do have to make a beginning now otherwise it will be too late.
