  • Small Business Saturday is Upon Us in all its Economic Ecstasy

After Black Friday, finally Small Business Saturday is today in all its economic ecstasy.

Small business owners are going to have a field day this time around. Yes, you heard right. It is Small Business Saturday and a volley of shoppers are going to be bullies for their fave local businesses.

The whole-hearted support of local small-scale business remains the #1 priority for most shoppers across the United States. The day was started by American Express about half a decade ago. Since small business owners wanted a bulkier clientele, this wish was granted thanks to the efforts of American Express.

Small Business Saturday is normally held on the Saturday following Thanksgiving. All the community members get together in order to show their full support and care for the local commercial enterprises.

As this tradition begins its sixth year of existence, it has managed to attract enough attention on its own. Many Yankees have become aware of it through hearsay and the news. The world is indeed becoming a smaller place. The main message is to “Shop Small” because “Small is Beautiful”. Today the day is a part of the holiday shopping tradition.

"Small Business Saturday has grown every year and it's been a big boost to Main Street America," said NFIB CEO and President Dan Danner. "We are very proud to partner with American Express once again this year to promote an event that connects American consumers with their hometown businesses."

It is literally all about pals, next door neighbors and familial ties. In an age of big government, big business and MNCs, the growth of a back to basics local trade network is something to be lauded.

The GM of American Express said that she was very proud of the fact that her company was a partner of Small Business Saturday. The function of Small Business Saturday was to reconnect consumers to their home town produce and products.

"Small Business Saturday is a major part of the holiday shopping tradition, and has become a celebration of the local small business owners that we call friends, neighbors and family," said Janey Whiteside, Senior Vice President and General Manager of American Express OPEN. "We're immensely proud to be a founding partner of Small Business Saturday, and it is gratifying to see how it has become the movement that it is today."

A majority of consumers are in fact willing to pay slightly higher in order to get a local product or service despite budgetary constraints. This shows loyalty and fealty to the art of acting locally.

About 35% of the clientele do their shopping at local malls. And 45% of the customers will spend more this year than they did in the previous year. Finally, 65% believe firmly in the newly established tradition and think that it increases local camaraderie and brotherhood.

Small businesses are the lifeblood of the local community. They provide the best at a regional and indigenous level. What more could the natives want? Shopping is an experience. And it can prove to be therapeutic in its essence.

The input of the local community only enhances the art of retail therapy. A coalition is set up which calls upon the local communities to just go for it. Among some pressure groups that have managed to help in the setting up of Small Business Saturday are the Women Impacting Public Policy and the Neighborhood Champions.

And Well + Good and Cherry Bombe not to mention Record Store Day will lend their two cents worth of wisdom. Finally Street Art will also be acting on the initiative. Social media is not an entity to be left behind in the stakes that have been instituted.

As far as word of mouth is concerned, it acts on a totally spontaneous level. People will talk since language is such a vital and buoyant aspect of our species that what is in the mind often finds its way to another person’s ears via vocal means or written speech.

The conversation is occurring all over America about thinking globally and acting locally. Even politicians know that the game is not only local but tribal. You have to start from a grassroots base and then go on to extend your feelers at a very late stage.

Facebook has created certain content regarding Small Business Saturday. Mark Zuckerberg is not one to remain aloof from the greatest thing happening in the nation on a small-scale level. Some firms and organizations will be chipping in too.

They include within their ranks: FedEx, Sam’s Club, AT&T, Hertz, Eventbrite and Etsy. A recent survey was also conducted and it found that the ordinary people showed 95% confidence in the process. It was a popular growth agency and helped the common businessman and local shopkeeper remain in the great game that is the economy of the United States.

In Colorado the small businesses are busy persuading the consumers to shop close to home. The majority of retailers in Colorado have jumped on the bandwagon and as the saying goes “the more the merrier”.

Among the attractions that will entice the customers are lucrative deals, prizes and fun activities and games. It will be a time of immense enjoyment and happy buying. And the best buys will be those based on the heart’s desire.

From gift stores to mom and pop stores, every seller will find a buyer and the cash nexus will get fulfilled whether someone agrees or disagrees. Transactions will get tried in the crucible of change. And there will be those who will drive a tough bargain. But it will all be in good faith.

The creation of Small Business Saturday was in response to Black Friday and Cyber Monday. This was only natural and should have been expected. The new practice has had quite an impact on the people.

Crafts for those interested and toys for kids are somewhere among the subtext of the sold items. And the merchants couldn’t be happier. Over 50 businesses are partaking in the event. And it will be a busy time as everyone influences everyone else.

You can get more information about today's deals and offers by exploring #ShopSmall on Small Business Saturday.

The basic purpose and reason of existence of this event is to raise awareness and support for community commerce. This is the latest trend in a retroactive approach that says that the past is not a foreign land to be forgotten.

There lies much in tradition and traditional practices that is to be salvaged. And while the modern and ultra-modern products and services do have their charm, old is still gold since it has been tried in the criterion factory of time.

Since it has value, it has stayed with humanity for so long. So many times a man travels the world in search of something and returns home to find it. That is why we have Small Business Saturday!
