Super Bowl Halftime Show 2016: Coldplay Takes You Behind the Scene in Pepsi Web Show

The announcement is now official. Coldplay is the Super Bowl 50 Halftime Show act. Fans do not have to wait until Feb. 7 to get to see Coldplay.

Super Bowl 50 Halftime Show performer is Coldplay. The news leaked before the official announcement during CBS' Thursday Night Football. As reported the Wall Street Journal reported yesterday afternoon that British band Coldplay will perform during Hafltime of the Big Game.

Coldplay was one of the rumored performers for Super Bowl 2015, that eventually Katy Perry performed. Now the NFL apparently came to an agreement with Coldplay for Super Bowl 50.

Coldplay front man Chris Martin is designing a Halftime Show that will have elements of the NFL's On the Fifty campaign, honoring the past, recognizing the present and looking ahead to the next 50 years, including guest artists. Who Coldplay will invite to the Super Bowl Halftime Show has not been revealed.

Chris Martin is definitely excited and a bit nervous about the prospect of performing at the Super Bowl. Watch him announce the Coldplay Halftime gig in the video below.

Coldplay is a high profile choice. The band has been selling more than 80 million copies of their six No. 1 albums and received eight BRIT awards. The band's most recent world tour, 2011/12 Mylo Xyloto, was seen by more than three million people in five continents.

Coldplay's new album "A Head Full of Dreams" got released today on iTunes.

Pepsi, the sponsor of the Halftime Show is will bring fans very close to Coldplay's Super Bowl Halftime Show adventure. Beginning Jan. 11, a digital mini-series, "Pepsi Presents: The Super Bowl Halftime Show Show" will launch on offering fans an exclusive, all-access view of what it takes to create the biggest music event of the year in the middle of the biggest sports event of the year, Super Bowl 50.

The Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show is the most-watched musical event of the year. More than 118.5 million viewers in the U.S. watched last year's show, marking the most-watched Halftime Show ever. Coldplay should be able to top that as Super Bowl 50 will be bigger event just because of the 50th anniversary.

Super Bowl 50 will take place on February 7, 2016, in Santa Clara, at the Levi's Stadium. The stadium is the home of the home of the San Francisco 49ers. Super Bowl 50 will be topping all previous Super Bowl's because of the anniversary. Marketers are flocking to Super Bowl 50 and it will be a huge TV event.
