The trailer for the long awaited Independence Day sequel is here. In 1996 Will Smith delivered a punch to the extra-terrestrial directly. However the star seems to be absent in the upcoming film.

In the 1996 original film a flying saucer blew up the White House on the American holiday. The sequel Independence Day: Resurgence follows the original storyline.
In the trailer humans have used the alien technology from the previous invasion for their defenses. Alas the defenses are no match for the incoming invaders.
The trailer also revealed the previous star of the film Will Smith will not be reprising his role. Jeff Goldblum on the other hand will be leading the cast in his role as David Levinson.
The trailer starts with Levinson invited by a UN doctor to show him what appears to be a massive alien stricture. Levinson utters the words ‘Oh My God’ upon seeing the anomaly.
What follows are the human’s efforts against a bigger invasion than they could have ever envisioned. Bill Pullman and Vivica A. Fox part of the original cast will also reprise their roles. New comers to the franchise include Liam Hemsworth, Joey King and William Fichtner.
In a marketing bid the trailer was launched alongside the website The War of 1996. The website contains info about the fate of the franchise for the last 20 years.

The website also reveals what happened to the character of Will Smith. Technological breakthroughs shown in the film are also explained on the website. Independence Day: Resurgence will be released on the 24th of June, 2016 in the UK and the US.
