CES 2016: Rinspeed to Demonstrate i8-Based Σtos Concept Car
  • Rinspeed to demonstrate its Σtos concept car at CES 2016!

The futuristic hybrid sports car concept comes with a personal autopilot and a drone at CES 2016.

Rinspeed is coming to the Consumer Electronics Show 2016. At CES Rinspeed will demonstrate future possibilities and raise future questions about auto mobiles. Rinspeed will present its “Σtos” concept car at the convention in Las Vegas.

The Σtos concept car is a self-driving car equipped with a drone. The hybrid sports car Σtos will be presented by Frank M. Rinderknecht himself at CES 2016. Rinderknecht is the boss of the Swiss idea smithy Rinspeed.

Rinderknecht will be holding celebrating a premiere outside the Swiss territory for the first time. The hybrid sports car concept Σtos will mark its official debut at the gamblers’ paradise Las Vegas.

According to Rinderknecht the digital world provides major and disruptive innovations in automotive engineering. It is one of the reasons why major car manufacturers are all present at CES every year.

The visionary boss approached the idea of self-driving cars through the perspective of the driver and the occupants. The human component was highlighted by the Swiss mastermind as he approached the topic of self-driving cars.

Rinderknecht also topped his concept with appealing highlights. All of it raises the most crucial question… To what extent is the human component involved in the autonomous car?

The question also raises many issues related to human ethics. Rinderknecht predicts the process will lead to an adaptive, learning and intuitive control software. Until then the road will be filled with trials and tests.

The Σtos concept is a technological highlight. The interior of the Σtos has a folding and retracting steering wheel from ZF TRW. The steering wheel is also the most magical aspect of the Σtos.

The Steering wheel can disappear in the dashboard in a few seconds. The disappearance creates a whole lot of space in the driver’s seat.

Similarly the Σtos concept, coming to CES 2016, will be equipped with two curved 21.5-inch Ultra HD widescreen monitors. The monitors will be individually adjusted to provide better view of the displayed contents.

The Σtos will also feature the innovative Harman Connected Car technologies. The unrivaled infotainment provides entertainment, connectivity and maximum safety.

The Σtos system adapts itself to the needs of the occupants better with time. The system also offers variable fitting selection options. Additionally the Σtos also responds to voice commands, gestures, touch input, controller or the push of a button.

The surrounding of the Σtos, that is going to be showcased at CES 2016, is visually monitored by eight HD exterior cameras. The cameras provide extra 180-degree panoramic views eliminating the possibility of blind spots.

The cameras can be called virtual “exterior mirrors” with an expanded field of vision. In tricky turns the Curb View of the Σtos is activated automatically.

The view offers direct view of the front wheels and prevents unwanted contact with curbs. The vehicle navigation comes with realistic 3D images. The images are of buildings, trees and other distinctive way points.

The Σtos will be unveiled at CES 2016 hosted by the CTA. World Premiere of Rinspeed Σtos will take place at the CES 2016, as part of the exclusive HARMAN event in the Muse Hall of the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas. Rinspeed Σtos' European premiere will be at the Geneva Motor Show starting March 1.

The Consumer Technology Association has been organizing the CES event for the last 40 years. CES 2016 will see 3600 exhibitors and 150,000 attendees. The event will last from the 6th to the 9th of January, 2016.
