Automatic delivery robots could prove to be the best aid agents for Santa Claus this Christmas.
Whole groups of small robots that whizz off here and there may become a reality pretty soon. These ground-based robots may deliver goods including groceries. The structure and plan exists.

All that needs to be done is that it needs to be put into practice. The co-founders of Skype have started a new setup called Starship Technologies. This firm will be carrying out test runs of its fleet of ground robots in time for Christmas.
The tiny robots are secure, reality-friendly and do not pollute the atmosphere. They are very compact and streamlined thus making it a cinch to traverse the environment.
"When you place your order online, as you do right now, but instead of getting the delivery by somebody coming up to your door and knocking on your door, you would get it by a robot," Ahti Heinla, a Skype co-founder and CEO at Starship Technologies, told Reuters.
Now, anyone who wants to make an online delivery order may do so and face different circumstances from the boring past.
Instead of a man or woman arriving at their door and handing them a package or parcel, they will be visited by a ground drone and simply disengage the delivered goods from its structure and re-enter their residence.
The drones can carry up to two shopping bags full of goods. And the delivery time is from five minutes to half an hour.
These robots are not meant for long distance deliveries though. They merely make the last mile route a piece of cake. The order is just a smart phone call away.
The consumers can even track the delivery drones as they come close to their homes on their smart phones. And the smart phone is also used to unlock the compartment carrying the required goods.
While the drones are getting strange looks from passersby, this state of affairs will not last for long. Most of the citizens are seriously positive about these futuristic techno-items.
As someone said, it is miniaturized, protected from any shocks and very durable. A clever piece of equipment that does its job very well, the ground drone is definitely the wave of the future. Within the next ten to twenty years, such technological wonders will become a regular fixture.
