At the CES 2016 LG will unveil its roll able organic light-emitting diode (OLED) products. According to LG the rollable displays itself is a never before seen innovative technology.
So LG is expected to debut the technology at the CES. It does not mean LG will showcase massive sized rollable OLED at the convention of CES 2016. An industry source claimed the OLED displays will not be more than a 100 inches.
"Rollable displays, in themselves, are a new technology, which means LG Display will not surprise audiences with massive-sized, rollable OLED displays of some 100 inches," source told Koreatimes.
The source further added LG will most likely unveil a 77-inch rollable OLED display. Since 77 inches is the largest OLED LG has been capable of producing for now.
Currently LG Display produces 55-, 65- and 77-inch OLED displays. They are used for manufacturing TVs at LG Electronics. An LG official stated they already have key technologies necessary to develop rollable OLED displays.
The problem is the market demand which has yet to catch up with the OLED hype. It is the main reason why LG is still only considering mass production of the rollable OLED panels.
LG Display official said, "We are already holding key technologies to develop rollable OLED displays. But the market demand has yet to catch up with our expectations. That's why we are still considering whether to mass-produce the rollable OLED panels."
LG even declined to comment if they are going to CES 2016 to promote the rollable OLED TVs. LG spokesman said, "We cannot reveal our plans over rollable OLED TVs at the upcoming tech fair. "Still expectations are LG Display will continue to stress the importance of OLED at the CES 2016.
