The 2016 Oscars are just a few days away. Since the Oscar season is near it seems fair to round up all the contenders. The nominations for the Oscars have yet to be announced. One of the most important categories at the Oscars is the BesT Director category.
The Huffington Post has rounded up all the hopefuls of the 88th Oscars Best Director category. A total of 17 contenders have been selected. However none of them is a female. It seems Hollywood still has a long way to go in gender equality.
At the top of the list is the epic director Ridley Scott. It seems like a fair bet that the epic space film The Martian director will definitely be nominated. Although the winner is always a surprise at the Oscars, Ridley Scott is a strong contender.
Last year’s Best Director winner Alejandro González Iñárritu, is the second runner up. This time his film the ‘The Revenant’ has been gaining a lot of Oscar buzz.
The Birdman director made headlines with his new Leonardo DiCaprio starring film about survival. The third contender is George Miller who rebooted the Mad Max franchise this year. The post-apocalypse film was one of the most astounding action films in recent years.
Understandably Tom McCarthy, Todd Haynes and Steven Spielberg are also included in the list. Quentin Tarantino, might also be nominated for his film The Hateful Eight. Similarly Lenny Abrahamson deserves a nomination for ‘Room’. So does David O. Russell for his film ‘Joy’.
Other contenders for Best Director include Ryan Coogler, Tom Hooper, Danny Boyle and Adam McKay. Not to underestimate him, but JJ Abrams may also have hope in the category. Lastly Gary Gray and John Crowley are at the end of the list.
