CES 2016: LG WebOS 3.0 Smart TVs Verified for Interoperability with IoT Devices
  • CES 2016: Underwriter Laboratory verifies LG’s webOS 3.0 smart TV!

The leading global testing and certification organization verifies the TV’s compatibility with IoT devices.

The third-generation webOS 3.0 smart TV platform by LG Electronics was to be unveiled at CES 2016. Recently it was found the TV has been verified by the Underwriters Laboratory (UL).

UL is a leading global testing and certification organization. UL has verified the webOS 3.0 smart TV platform is compatible with Internet of Things (IoT) devices. Especially the IoT devices usually found in homes are attuned with the third-generation LG TV.

UL verified a number of LG TVs containing the webOS 3.0.  Such as the OLED and 4K UHD Smart TVs to be launched at the CES 2016. LG will display their IoT tech at CES 2016 in LVCC Central Hall, booth #8204. 

The webOS operating system by LG had already earned a reputation as one of the most intuitive smart TV platforms. A new proprietary IoTV app was also added to the LG smart TV.

The 2016 SMART TVs will feature the webOS 3.0 which will deliver smart home management functionality. It will allow consumers to LG smart appliances as well as other compatible IoT products.

The LG webOS 3.0 smart TV can even display the status of a user's various smart appliances. So it can also be called an interface between users and their devices.

Home appliances such as refrigerators, air conditioners or washing machines could also be controlled. The devices just need to be connected to the internet and the IoTV app. The IoTV app will also allow users to adjust the brightness or change the temperature settings of a room. 

"We've always considered the living room TV as a central hub of the smart home and LG Smart TV with webOS 3.0 was designed with this functionality in mind," said Sam Kim, senior vice president and head of TV product planning at the LG Electronics Home Entertainment Company.

"This UL verification further supports LG's commitment to providing an unparalleled user experience and developing innovative IoT-capable smart home products that exceed consumer expectations."

The Consumer Electronics show 2016 is prepared by the CTA. The CES venue is Las Vegas, Nevada. The Consumer Technology Association has been the organiser for over 4 decades. CES 2016 will see 3600 exhibitors and 150,000 attendees.  The CES 2016 will carry on from the 6th until the 9th of January, 2016.
