The Vision Car will demonstrate the networking between driver, vehicle and environment. One of the latest techs in the Vision Car will be the AirTouch.
The AirTouch will allow intuitive control of entertainment, navigation and communication functions. The feature will use simple gestures made with a flat hand.
The new AirTouch also allows the display to be operated like a touchscreen. Most importantly it does not need to have contact with the surface. The hand movements are recorded by sensors between the central console and the interior mirror.
The tech is already available as the BMW Gesture Control in the new BMW 7 Series. The gesture control technology was already presented at CES 2015.
The AirTouch is now going to take another step forward into the future. The sensors are placed in the area of the instrument dashboard. The sensors respond to hand movements and allow three-dimensional control.
Simple movements allow actions such as adjusting the loudness or accepting phone calls. Additionally a concealed AirTouch button is placed on the rim of the steering wheel.
The button lights up when a menu or icon can be activated. Only tap of the button is enough to activate the desired program or to change any setting.
