A Taipei-based Central News Agency (CNA) reported that HTC is planning to set up an independent virtual reality (VR) company, an offshoot of its VR unit which will now stand as an independent business or company, Digitimes writes.

Although HTC would not speak on the development, chairperson Cher Wang and HTC will reportedly control 100% stake in the VR at takeoff, until some time when the stakes may be diversified.
During the recent CES 2016, Wang said offhandedly that HTC will consider an independent VR business to enable it develop and market its VR products more effectively, meaning the proposed VR company will operate separately as a different entity from HTC.

“While the smartphone business remains critical for HTC, it is more important for HTC to strive into the VR market,” Wang was reported to have said.
