Even the highly anticipated i5 and i8 Spyder will not be released this year. BMW first starting hinting at production of an i8 Spyder car more than four years ago.

However BMW only released the i Vision Future Interaction at the CES 2016. The convertible version of i8 was not to be seen at Las Vegas this year. So it seems an i8 may not be a possibility in the near future. Especially not in 2016.

According to BMW the i8 is selling well enough now, so the line-up doesn’t strictly need it. claims the news comes directly from a senior BMW source.

It may be possible BMW is more invested in its celebrations than releasing a new concept. However BMW has no plans for the convertible versions this year. So in short the BMW i5 is likely not arriving before 2018.
