Honda Clarity Fuel Cell is Not Cheap
  • Honda 2016 Clarity is not cheap with a price tag of $60,000!

The Fuel Cell sedan featuring four doors will have leases starting from $500 per month for a year.

Honda has disclosed the pricing and availability of the 2016 Clarity. The price of the Fuel Cell sedan is not cheap. The 2016 Clarity will be a five-passenger, four-door vehicle. It will arrive in dealerships before 2016 ends.

The 2016 Clarity has an estimated price tag of $60,000. The leases for the 2016 Clarity will be available from $500 a month. The 2016 Clarity will definitely put Honda in the region of its fuel cell competitors.

In fall 2015, Toyota announced the price of their four-door hydrogen fuel cell Mirai sedan. The Mirai on the other hand is worth $2000 less than the 2016 Clarity.

However the down payments for Toyota Mirai would only knock off a dollar when compared to Honda.   The price announced by Honda does not include the US state and federal rebates. Even incentives and tax breaks up to $13,000 will be added to the final price. Similarly, hydrogen fuel cell vehicles now seem more attractive to consumers. Especially environmentalists, since fuel cell vehicles only produce water vapor as an emission.

The fuel cell vehicles can also be easily refueled in three to five minutes. Another factor in favor of the fuel cell vehicles is their range of 300 miles or more.

However the hydrogen fuel cell infrastructure needs some improvements in the US. Especially the availability of fuel cell filling station network to the public needs more incentive.

Honda for its part has been pushing for lower-polluting vehicles for a long-time. Even last week Honda was awarded the prestigious 2016 Green SUV Award. The award is given by the Green Car Journal trade publication.
