Actors including Tyrese Gibson, Lena Dunham, George Clooney, Whoopi Goldberg, Tessa Thompson, Lupita Nyong'o and Stacey Dash have voiced their opinions about the reasons of this racial preference among the nominees while others like Spike Lee, Pinkett-Smiths and Don Cheadle have declared that they will boycott this year’s Oscars.
All eyes have been on Chris Rock to make a decision about whether he would be boycotting this year’s Oscars. Chris Rock was chosen last year to host this year’s Oscars.
His decision to boycott the Oscars would have caused the Academy a considerable amount of trouble to find a new host in a very short period. Ricky Gervais had advised the 50 year old actor/comedian to keep on the show and keep the Academy on edge.
Seems like Chris had the same plan. He is not giving up his duties as the host of this year’s Oscars, according to ETOnline. Academy Awards producer Reginald Hudlin confirmed that Rock will be hosting the ceremony at the 47th NAACP Image Awards Nominee Luncheon on Saturday.
According to Hudlin, Chris Rock had completed the monologue writing almost a week before the Pinkett-Smiths started the boycott movement. Chris ripped the previous script since the #OscarsSoWhite movement and locked himself in a room with the writers to come up with new and fresh content addressing the present situation at hand.
Hudlin says that he is sure that Chris will include remarks and jokes about the current racial issues in his new monologue and the Academy is ready for that.
