The Revenant Tops US Box Office
  • The Revenant Tops Charts Despite the Snow Storm Jonah

Even with a vast cinema closing due to the snowstorm Jonah, the Revenant has managed to remain on the top with $16 million this weekend.

Leonardo’s DiCaprio Oscar nominated role in The Revenant has become the attention of the movie watchers as they go down to see the movie.

There was nothing that could have hindered the success of this story on the big screen according to Fox domestic distribution chief Chris Aronson who was sure that the movie would come out at the top. He estimated almost $19 million in earning instead of the $16 million business that the movie did this weekend.

The reason is the widespread theater closings across America due to snowstorm Jonah. Following Jonah, the roads and paths have been snowed in and citizens are finding it hard to move in their daily lives.

Aronson says that he has never in his life seen such a vast cinema closing. The movie has still managed to do well domestically as it topped this weekend’s charts.

The movie also did great in the foreign markets as it pulled in $33.8 million across 48 markets for a foreign total of $104.5 million. The movie passed the $200 million mark globally by finishing Sunday with an estimated $223.7 million.

Star Wars: the Force Awaken consequently fell to number three with $14.5 million in the US this weekend totaling it up to $1.49 billion overall. The movie that beat Star Wars was Kevin Hart and Ice Cube’s sequel comedy Ride Along 2 with $12.9 million. The movie also featuring Olivia Munn and Kevin Chong.

The most surprising up riser on the chart is Robert DeNiro and Zac Effron’s R-rated comedy Dirty Grandpa doing business of $11.5 million from 3,192 theaters.

The movie did not sit well with the critics but the audience loved the movie and gave it a B cinema score. Coming in 5th was the horror movie The Boy $11.2 million from 2,671 theatres.

Movie earnings fired by younger females and Hispanics, the movie is about an American nanny taking a job in an English village where she finds out that she is in charge of taking care of a life-size doll which is treated like a real boy for the couple she works for.

Top 5 movies at US box office according to THR are:

1. The Revenant - $16 Million

2. Star Wars: The Force Awakens - $14.3 Million

3. Ride Along 2 - $13 Million

4. Dirty Grandpa - $11.5 Million
