  • A Single Tui Chub will be Hunted by many a Tiger Trout

The situation is an interesting one. A single tui chub will be hunted by many a tiger trout. As many as 25,000 tiger trouts will go after this single troublesome tui chub.

Nature is a tough entity and much larger than us puny humans. But we still manage to prove that we are Mother Nature’s biggest blunder by causing all sorts of disruptions in her delicate ecosystems and food webs.

The very concept of cycles are an epitome of fragility. To mess up the food webs by intervention is to invite trouble that takes years and decades to get back to normal.

Tui chubs ate up all the environment of a lake in the 90s. Now that a single species of these voracious fish has been detected again after elimination, over 25,000 tiger trouts are set loose after it to destroy it, according to the Mail Tribune.

Tiger trouts are known to feed on tui chub. A tui chub epidemic led to massive destruction of Diamond Lake. Now that a single member of the species has been detected in the lake, the peope are worried sick.

The tui chub population went up from 30 million in 1991 to 60 million in 2006. Oregon’s Diamond Lake was the site of the troublesome pest fish species.

Since fishermen used tui chubs as live bait, some of them managed to escape into the surrounding waters. The result was that now a single specimen has been detected in the lake.

Tui chubs have been known to eat most other fish and leave the larger ones starved as a result. They also lead to the deposition of blue green algae on the surface of the lake. This causes devastation of the ecosystem.

The authorities used a poisonous chemical to destroy the tui chub in 2006. Now it has resurfaced leading to fears among the local people. So a more natural and benign method is being used to finish off this thing called tui chub.

An army of 25,000 tiger trouts will be released into the waters. Since there are chances of more than one tui chub being present in the area, all these tiger trouts will be utilized to hunt down the tui chub.

The only problem is the unknown effect of the tiger trout on the environment. However, this is a chance that the authorities will have to take for better or for worse.
