New report says Apple will introduce the iPad Air 3 at a March event.
It looks like it is finally time to get a new iPad. My kids are forced to use an iPad 2, which was working fine all these years, but now it hits a wall. The new Lego Nexo Knight game is not fully running on the iPad 2. The iPad 2 CPU cannot handle this game anymore and my kids need to take turns playing it on the iPhone 6S.

9to5Mac reports that Apple is introducing the new iPad Air 3 at a March event. This means that the current iPad Air line-up will get price cuts. The new features in the iPad Air 3 including faster CPU, rear-facing LED flash, better audio and possible Apple Pencil support. So far this sounds like a not that exciting update, but the iPad Air 2 will get cheaper. That iPad Air version is more than good enough to run modern apps and games on it.
The iPad Air 2 starts at $499. It is expected that the price will drop to $399, which is the current price-tag of the iPad Air. The iPad Air will be discontinued, once the iPad Air 3 goes on sale. The tablet marked has completely saturated. Low-cost Android tablet like the Amazon Fire tablet are pushing with extreme force against the high-end segment.
I have not upgraded my iPad for years. The customers of iPads are poeple like me that still use outdated iPads than now need new ones as apps and games like Nexo Knights don't run anymore.
The iPad Air product line was last updated in 2014. The bi-annual update cycles shows that the iPad is much less important to Apple than the iPhone.
It is now expected that Apple is introducing at the unconfirmed March event the iPad Air 3, iPhone 5se and new Apple Watch models. The Apple March 2016 media event is supposed to take place in the week of March 14.
