  • Ford to offer a diesel version of the F-150 pick-up truck!

The best-selling truck was previously only offered with gas engines, but an oil burner is on its way.

Ford just announced it will produce a diesel version of the F-150 pick-up truck. The news was announced via a video released by Ford. The video shows the F-150 pick-up making clattery noises in a diesel prototype.

The F-150 is Ford's bestselling light-duty pickup. The F-150 offers a wide menu of six- and eight-cylinder gas engines. Ford is now adding an oil-burner to the F-150 offerings.

The F-150 would most probably be equipped with an engine like seen in the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel. Ford could also go the V6 diesel route or it could have a big Cummins diesel V8.

Some analysts are guessing Ford would go for the smaller engine with fewer cylinders. Since it would provide the fuel economy boost that an F-150 owner is likely to want.

Other are suggesting the F-150 could make use of a diesel V6 from Jaguar Land Rover. The 3.0-liter engine makes 254 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque.

The fuel economy in those SUVs stands at 22 mpg city and 29 highways. Or Ford could offer both small and large engines in its diesel variants, according to AutoBlog

The fact a diesel variant is upcoming is confirmed and set in stone. Only the engine of the diesel variant for the F-150 still remains a mystery. The diesel-packing F-150 could come as early as the 2017.
