Congress has spoken regarding NASA’s Mars mission. It has stressed the fact that there should be a plan regarding the journey to the Red Planet.
At a special congressional hearing, NASA’s mission to Mars was criticized in excess. It was called naïve and a rudderless scheme.

The congressmen ratified the fact that the whole scheme needed a firm basis in reality and also had to be feasible if it was to succeed. Cash was the biggest hurdle since NASA doesn’t receive enough money to cover the costly trip.
Also the advanced state-of-the-art technology that was required to send a man or two to Mars was not quite here just yet. Due to this reality check, many congressmen doubted whether NASA would be able to complete its Mars mission.
In fact, many of them advised that the space agency shift its focus to a moon mission instead. The lack of clarity and fuzzy thinking displayed by NASA’s administration were the main stumbling blocks.
The details in the plan are missing and this will be the undoing of the whole mission. The SLS and Orion both do not measure up to the demands of NASA’s history.
These are not the only tough things which will need attention if a Mars mission is to be a possibility. Other hardware such as habitat modules, landing equipment and launch pads figure somewhere among the works. The trip is not a one way ticket. What about the return journey home?
Besides this the time schedule for the Mars trip is also not clearly defined. While the SLS and Orion are to start their journeys two years from now, the rocket’s future is uncertain.
Things ought not be delayed beyond the year 2023. NASA plans on hurrying things up so that the occurrence takes place by 2021. It is all topsy turvy and in a helter skelter mode of being.
As for the rocket, it is supposed to be part of NASA’s ARM (Asteroid Redirect Mission). An asteroid is supposed to be brought into lunar orbit so that human beings can visit it from aboard the SLS.
NASA received quite some unsolicited advice from congressmen for the haphazard nature of its plans. They say that there are loopholes in the system.

The misguided efforts were basically a waste of time. The United States would do better to resort to the moon as a source of its space adventurism, said many of the congressmen, as opposed to seeking the impossible such as a trip to Mars.
