Universal is however going down a different road with their reboot journey. While major studios have been rebooting superhero movies or romantic flicks or comedy hits, Universal is opting to reboot some of its supernatural hits back to the audience.
Labelled as the Monster Universe, the studio is hoping to reboot The Wolf Man, Bride of Frankenstein, Invisible Man and The Creature From the Black Lagoon.
The studios has already attached Tom Cruise and Kingsmen’s Sofia Boutella to The Mummy project which will be directed by Alex Kurtzman. The Monster Universe is currently a project under work headed by Fast and Furious vet Chris Morgan and Alex Kurtzman.
There are no definitive directors attached to any of the movies yet, but the studios writing room is flaunting an array of writers and scribes that have penned down some great movies in their careers.
One of those writers is of course the Men in Black and Now You See Me scribe Ed Solomon who is reportedly busy in developing the script for the Invisible Man.
Adapted from the H.G. Wells novel with the same name, the story is about a chemist who develops and uses a chemical that makes him invisible. The movie was originally adapted into a movie in 1933 starring Claude Rains.
The transformation of the character has great psychological implications as the chemical use makes him jealous, paranoid and psychotic which eventually leads to a killing spree.
The movie spawned several sequels and movies in which the Invisible Man has been featured including Sean Connery starer League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.
Johnny Depp has been cast to play the Invisible Man in the Universal’s reboot, reported THR. Depp is known for playing eccentric roles including vivid makeup, costumes and make up so it was initially hard to understand why he would agree to play someone invisible.

The psychological profile and development of the character is somewhat explanatory of why Depp would be interested in playing the role. The movie is yet to be finalized, shot and released and no definite dates have been announced but fans will always love to see Depp on screen.
