“The Revenant” stole away all awards at the BAFTAs this year and now the same can be predicted for the Oscars.
The annual BAFTA awards used to be an alternative for the Oscars. Previously films like “Romeo + Juliet” and “Four Wedding and a Funeral” won big time at the BAFTA awards.

This award used to nominate stars and starlets that were not even considered for the Academy Awards. However this trend of giving Awards to the movies that had no hope of entering the Oscars changed fifteen years back.
Now BAFTA has an entire membership that is focused on nominating the films with the best editing, screenplay and writing along with other things related to films.
Last year’s nominations lent great competition in the form of visual effects which included “Whiplash” and “Birdman”. These both were nominated and then won Awards.
However there is still a difference that can be seen between Oscar nominations and BAFTA since the Oscars tend to choose the ones with more promising performances.
Leonardo DiCaprio’s “The Revenant” was nominated for best film, while “The Martian” and “Mad Max: Fury Road” were nominated in the category as well.
Leonardo was however nominated for best actor in lead role for “The Revenant” too. This movie was also not nominated for many other categories in BAFTA but not the smaller categories.
