According to TechCrunch, you will have to "Gmailify" your non-Gmail account even if you are already using the app. But it is simple. All you have to do is open the app, sign into the external accounts and then "enable Gmailify."
This will essential link your account to Gmail. You'll go to the "Settings" screen and link your accounts there. You won't have to do anything different when you go to the web version.
